One Procedure.
A Life Forever Changed.
This site chronicles the hope and hard things I've learned while undergoing SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) and the marathon of growth since the procedure.
I want to support other families and adults who are considering this journey. I’m not anyone extraordinary. I simply have a story and a perspective that might help someone else feel less alone, more informed, or more confident in their own decision.
Choosing SDR can be overwhelming. I’ve included a snapshot of my experience and the considerations that helped me make informed decisions.
An indepth look at my journey, along with the resources that support it, explaining my growth
Through my research and experience, I've identified three core components that drive SDR success, regardless of the surgeon we choose.
Full Disclosure.
I want you to feel at ease here, so I’ll be transparent from the start. There are already excellent sites that list hospitals, surgeons, post‑surgery therapy programs, and exercises. When those resources are helpful, I link to them rather than trying to recreate what already exists.
My purpose is different.
I’m here to offer an older‑adult perspective... the highs, the lows, and the honest reality of making a decision like SDR later in life. I also want to share the things I wish my parents had known when I was younger. And finally, I’m trying to be the resource I wish I had when I was making this decision myself.
Please remember that every experience with CP is unique. What I share reflects my own journey and isn’t meant to replace medical advice or speak for every situation. Nor am I speaking on behalf of any of the people or organizations mentioned here. My hope is simply for my story to help you feel less alone as you navigate your own path.
